Defense News in Brief: NPS Oceanography Professor Wins National Science Foundation CAREER Program Grant

MONTEREY, Calif. – Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Assistant Professor of Oceanography Dr. Mara Orescanin was recently awarded a five-year grant through the highly-competitive National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER program. The grant will afford Orescanin with an opportunity to build on her already existing research exploring intermittent rivers, bar-built estuaries and beach breaches and closures, all of which can have considerable impact on amphibious operation planning and execution.

Defense News in Brief: GE parts reclamation program saves time, money for FRCE engine lines

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. – FRCE has recently engaged in a parts reclamation program offered by GE Aviation, the manufacturer of the T64 and F404 engines that power the H-53 and F/A-18 aircraft, respectively. Under this program, the company will take worn components back to its plant in lots of 35,000 pounds to be demilitarized and recycled. As an added bonus, Naval Air Systems Command receives a credit for the amount of materials, which can be used toward other T64 or F404 components.

Defense News in Brief: Founded on Freedom offers fun, music during July 4 holiday weekend

As part of its virtual event series, the NEX along with MWR Navy Fitness and MWR Navy Entertainment, will be hosting Founded on Freedom during the July 4th holidays. During the weekend, patrons can participate in the Run for Freedom virtual 5k race July 1 – 4. In addition to the 5k race, patrons can also tune in to listen to the free Jams for Freedom virtual concert series beginning July 1. All the concerts will be shown on Facebook.com/NavyExchange.
