PENSACOLA, Fla. – Carla McCarthy, deputy public affairs officer at NETC’s Public Affairs Office in Pensacola, was selected as NETC’s second quarter of Fiscal Year 2021 Senior Civilian of the Quarter (COQ), and Brooke Passione, information system security officer and Navy qualified validator for NETC cyber security, was selected as NETC’s Junior COQ.

MONTEREY, Calif. – Congressman Adam Smith, 17th Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC), visited the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), July 13, to participate in the university’s Secretary of the Navy Guest Lecture (SGL) program. Smith discussed the critical role of creativity, innovation and emerging technology in U.S. national security during his presentation, “Advancing Our Defense Technological Leadership,” offered live to students, faculty and staff in NPS’ King Auditorium and broadcast online.

Security News in Brief: DaVita Inc. and Former CEO Indicted in Ongoing Investigation of Labor Market Collusion in Health Care Industry

A federal grand jury in Denver returned a two-count indictment charging DaVita Inc. and its former CEO, Kent Thiry, for conspiring with competing employers not to solicit certain employees. DaVita owns and operates outpatient medical care centers across the country, focusing on dialysis and kidney care. These charges are the result of the Antitrust Division’s ongoing investigation into employee allocation agreements in the health care industry. DaVita’s co-conspirator Surgical Care Affiliates LLC and its related entity (collectively SCA) were charged in January, and that case is pending in the Northern District of Texas.

Now, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) scientists and a local company want to use them to track corrosion or degradation on combat systems aboard Navy ships.
