BATON ROUGE, LA – Throughout the weekend, public safety officials from numerous federal, state, and local agencies worked to coordinate security protocols and ensure safety for protesters, Capitol grounds, and the surrounding community. The peaceful assemblies and activities throughout the weekend were a testament to the intended purpose of our First Amendment rights, including the right to peacefully protest.

Leading up to Inauguration Day on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, a multi-agency collaborative team will remain in a heightened posture to monitor for any emerging threats to our state. No specific and substantiated threat to life or property has been identified at this time to include the State Capitol or other government buildings.

All agencies remain steadfast in our mission to protect our citizens and deter criminal activity which prevents others from peacefully expressing their First Amendment rights.

Citizens are urged to report suspicious and/or suspected criminal activity by utilizing:

BATON ROUGE, LA – Through a collaborative effort of federal, state, and local public safety agencies, officials continue to prepare for possible protests at the Louisiana State Capitol. Representatives from the Louisiana State Police; DPS Police; Federal Bureau of Investigation; Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal; Louisiana Attorney General’s Office; Louisiana Army National Guard; Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness; East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office; Baton Rouge Police Department; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; United States Attorney Office; and the Louisiana Legislative Sergeant at Arms are working closely to coordinate security protocols and ensure safety for protesters, capitol grounds and staff, and the surrounding community.

Although no specific and substantiated threat to life or property have been identified at this time to include the State Capitol or other government buildings, partnering agencies will continually monitor for potential security concerns and provide timely notification should this change. All agencies remain steadfast in our mission to protect our citizens and respect those who choose to exercise their First Amendment rights, including the right to peacefully protest. Criminal activity, the destruction of property, and the intentional incitement of violence prevents others from peacefully expressing their First Amendment rights and will not be tolerated.

In preparation, a multi-agency, unified command center will be utilized to maintain a heightened posture to monitor for any emerging threats to our state. The focus is to provide a centralized location for gathering intelligence, assessing potential threats, and providing any additional resources needed. All agencies involved will be focused on identifying, investigating, and disrupting individuals attempting to incite violence and engage in criminal activity during peaceful protests in Louisiana.

LOUISVILLE, KY—The FBI Carjacking Violent Crime Task Force announces the arrest of Ashton Nally on Sunday, December 13, 2020 on federal carjacking charges resulting in the death of Travis Nagdy. Louisville Field Office FBI special agents, working with the Louisville Metro Police Department Homicide Unit, arrested Nally at approximately 11:30 a.m. in Madisonville, Kentucky. In addition, the Madisonville Police Department and the United States Secret Service assisted in the operation. Nally was taken into custody without incident and remains in federal custody until his initial appearance later this afternoon, December 14, 2020.

“Victims of violent crime matter. Working with our federal, state, and local partners, the FBI is committed to fostering safe communities by removing violent criminals from our neighborhoods. We want to thank the Louisville Metro Police Department, Madisonville Police Department, and U.S. Secret Service for their partnership throughout this investigation,” said Robert Brown, special agent in charge, FBI, Louisville Field Office.

“The arrest this weekend highlights the valued importance of continued partnership between LMPD and our state and federal partners in combating the swelling tide of violent crime in our community. Working together with these partners and our community, we can better set about the work of making our city a better, safer place to live and work for all.” said Chief Yvette Gentry.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Carjacking Violent Crime Task Force comprised of the FBI, ATF, HSI, KSP, JCSO, and LMPD.

The public is reminded that this release is not evidence that the individuals discussed committed the crimes charged. All defendants are presumed innocent until the government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

LOUISVILLE, KY—The FBI has concluded that the human remains found on Friday, July 24th, near the border of Nelson and Washington Counties are not Crystal Rogers. Over the last few months, the FBI has utilized the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) in an attempt to identify the remains. Unfortunately, a match was not found. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office will continue to be the lead on the investigation of the unidentified remains and the FBI will be available to assist if needed. The FBI and our law enforcement partners understand that many in the community were hopeful that these remains would bring answers to the Crystal Rogers case. This latest development most certainly does not affect the unwavering resolve of the FBI personnel assigned to investigate the disappearance of Crystal Rogers. Bringing justice to the community of Bardstown remains a top priority of FBI Louisville.
