Who is Dr. Sam Buttrey?

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) professor will forever be memorialized as a trivia answer – phrased, of course, in the form of a question – for avid fans of the hit TV quiz show “Jeopardy!”

Buttrey, an associate professor in NPS’ Operations Research department, was the big winner in the inaugural “Jeopardy!” Professors Tournament, which was recorded in Los Angeles earlier this fall and televised Dec. 6-17.

WASHINGTON – Cmdr. Mark deVry and Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Dursa – both admiralty Law specialists affiliated with the Navy Reserve Law Program – recently returned home after volunteering on short notice to assist Louisiana officials in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.  The storm – which made landfall in late August and early September – was the deadliest and most intense Louisiana hurricane since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
