WASHINGTON — As part of the U.S. Navy’s continuing efforts to integrate Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) with all other surface ship classes, the LCS Fleet Introduction and Sustainment Program Office (PMS 505) realigned to Naval Sea System Command’s Surface Ship Maintenance, Modernization and Sustainment (NAVSEA 21) directorate during a small ceremony, Oct. 1.

Military Sealift Command operates 19 Large, Medium-Speed, Roll-on/Roll-off Ships, or LMSRs. These ships have significantly expanded the nation’s sealift capability in the 21st century. Twenty LMSRs have been converted or built at U.S. shipyards. One was further converted for other use. Eight are assigned to MSC’s Prepositioning Program and the remaining 11 belong to MSC’s Sealift Program.

The Navy has increased tuition assistance benefits, allowing qualified Sailors to now use up to 18 semester credit hours annually, up from the previously allowed 12. Along with this expanded credit cap comes a list of new eligibility requirements that tighten up who can use Navy Tuition Assistance (TA) and when.
