The Department of Justice today announced written department-wide policies explicitly prohibiting the use of “chokeholds” and “carotid restraints” unless deadly force is authorized, and limiting the circumstances in which the department’s federal law enforcement components are authorized to use unannounced entries. The announcement follows a review with the department’s law enforcement agencies led by Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco.

ARABIAN SEA – Amphibious assault ship USS ESSEX (LHD 2), flagship of the ESSEX Amphibious Ready Group (ESX ARG), along with amphibious transport dock USS Portland (LPD 27), dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) and embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) entered the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, Sept. 12.

SPARKS, Nev. – The Tailhook Association’s 2021 symposium—Hook ’21—came to a close on September 12, 2021, ending with a banquet keynoted by U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander, Adm. Samuel J. Paparo. The three-day event featured presentations and dialogue from leaders across Naval Aviation. The convention provided opportunities for naval aviators to discuss the requirements for current readiness and the future force.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Engineers at NIWC Atlantic’s Expeditionary Warfare Department spent years consolidating the Marine Corps’ primary intelligence system known as DCGS-MC. The major modernization effort resulted in a lightweight version of the system, which completed its first round of fielding to Marines this summer.
