Joenell L. Rice, an inmate currently housed at USP Allenwood in Pennsylvania, is facing a voluntary manslaughter and assault charges in the death of another inmate, Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard announced. Rice, 34, was indicted on one count of “Voluntary Manslaughter” and one count of “Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.”

The indictment charges six people with one count of “Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base, Cocaine Hydrochloride, Methamphetamine, and Heroin” and several other drug charges.

LaShawn Royce Nickelson, of Newark, Ohio, is facing drug and firearms charges, Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard announced. Nickelson, 49, was indicted this week on one count of “Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base, Cocaine Hydrochloride, Heroin, and Fentanyl,” one count of “Distribution of Cocaine Base within 1000 feet of a Protected Location,” one count of “Aiding and Abetting the Distribution of Cocaine Base,” one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin,” one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl,” one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Hydrochloride,” one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base,” and one count of “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.” 

Security News in Brief: Five local men charged federally with crimes connected to 3 murders

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A federal grand jury has charged five Columbus men with crimes related to three murders. An alleged narcotics conspiracy in 2018 to rob a local marijuana dealer of drugs and cash in his residence allegedly resulted in the shooting death of another resident within that house. To cover up for this murder, it is alleged one defendant murdered a man and a woman with knowledge of the first murder.
