MONTEREY, Calif. – Congressman Adam Smith, 17th Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC), visited the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), July 13, to participate in the university’s Secretary of the Navy Guest Lecture (SGL) program. Smith discussed the critical role of creativity, innovation and emerging technology in U.S. national security during his presentation, “Advancing Our Defense Technological Leadership,” offered live to students, faculty and staff in NPS’ King Auditorium and broadcast online.

NAVAL AIR STATION FALLON, Nev. – The roar of naval aircraft flying through vast, blue skies is a familiar sound for those stationed in the “Oasis of Nevada”. Fallon, home to Naval Air Station Fallon, is a small town nestled between bird-filled wetlands and tall, dusty mountains. Here, two surface Warfare Tactics Instructors (WTI) play a large role in fleet integration between Carrier Air Wings and Carrier Strike Groups.

PORT HUENEME, Calif. – Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their sensors track and monitor wildlife, livestock, infrastructure, weather and construction progress, among other tasks. Now, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) scientists and a local company want to use them to track corrosion or degradation on combat systems aboard Navy ships.
